Ollie is an interactive edutainment program to help children, teachers and parents connect to the natural world through a series of games and activities. It explores the 4R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink as they apply to the action issues of Waste, Water, Energy, Air and Biodiversity.
The Australian version was sent out to every school across the country years ago, but the content is still relevant for kids between 5-10 years and the games and puzzles are still fun to play.
So that’s the official update on Ollie – but as I reflect on all the years I spent roaming the world and developing different programs for kids in Australia, the UK, the USA and even the UAE, I can’t help but reminisce fondly of all the wonderful people I met and all the great places I visited.
My goal was to create an interactive resource where kids could come to understand their connection to the natural world. While this could never replace getting out and exploring nature itself, it was a way to introduce a range of environmental topics in a very user friendly and gamified way.
Ollie was ahead of the game when it was launched and remains a wonderfully entertaining way to engage young kids in sustainability and responsible living.
